Earth is the part of our solar system and it is the only planet where life exist.

So we all have curiosity that what is the shape of earth.

If we look around us, the earth looks flat.

Even before the middle ages, it is believed that earth is flat.

first theory or flat earth concept is

The flat Earth concept persisted till about 300 years ago.

In fact, people used to think that if they sailed too far in one direction, they would fall off the edge of the Earth! Pythagoras was the first person to talk about the Earth being spherical.

A practical demonstration of Earth’s sphericity was achieved by Ferdinand Magellan’s expedition’s circumnavigation.

many people still believed it is flat, but some theories proved that shape of the earth is sphere.

Today, after many research we know that the Earth is not a perfect sphere. It is slightly flattened at the poles, and bulges at the equator.

First, Sir Isaac Newton claimed that the earth was not spherical, but the earth was oval in shape.

  1. Excellent topic! Great analogy to be found in many other areas of human existence (majority believes one thing which is adopted as truth and then a few hundreds of years later on majority believes another thing and that is the truth). Another great examples of this are old beliefs on scurvy and miasmas theory (that we may be undergoing right now as well).

  2. Scholars are debating whether the Earth is spherical or flat… but as of now, it’s definitely not in a good shape (good condition) … Now, its only the optimistic people and noble deeds which can carve a beautiful Earth… We must not see nature with our eyes, but with our understanding and our hearts!

  3. Sooo if the “Earth is not a perfect sphere. It is slightly flattened at the poles, and bulges at the equator.” Then all globes are wrong. (Love that because I never felt they were accurate.)

I actually agree with Sir Isaac Newton, but open to the idea that our planet has a torus or donut shape too! ❤️🦋🌀
